Why Your Lash Retention Is Failing - And How To Fix It Fast

Retention is the number one struggle for new and experienced lash techs. You can have perfect isolation, a perfect map and the dream client… but if the lashes don’t last, none of it matters.

Here’s the truth: 90% of retention issues come down to adhesive control, aftercare, and environmental factors not your “skill” at lashing.

Let’s break it down.

1. Your Humidity Isn’t Matching Your Adhesive

Every adhesive has an ideal humidity range.

When humidity is too low → your glue cures too slow.

When it’s too high → it shock-cures instantly and pops off within days.

Tip: Check your room every day. Use a hydrometer, not guesswork.

2. You’re Using Too Much or Too Little Glue

Your glue bead should be small, fresh, and replaced every 15–20 minutes.

If it’s stringy, gloopy or separating then ditch it.

3. You’re Not Sealing the Adhesive Properly

A superbonder instantly locks in the adhesive, reduces fumes, AND improves retention.

This is why my Super bonder pairs perfectly with my 0.05 and 1 second Lash Glue

→ They’re designed to work together for faster curing and better longevity.

Use it at the end of every set, and let your client open their eyes without stinging.

4. Client Aftercare Still Matters

Even the best glue can’t survive if clients:

  • Sleep on their face

  • Use steam daily

  • Pick their lashes

  • Clean them incorrectly

  • Using loads of oily products near extensions

Make sure your clients know simple rules: cleanse daily, no picking, avoid direct heat.

5. Fresh Glue = Better Retention

Any glue older than 4–6 weeks after opening loses power. You deserve better results and your clients do too.

Retention isn’t luck - it’s science.

Once your humidity, application and aftercare are aligned (plus using a primer, reliable adhesive and super bonder), you’ll notice:

✔ Fewer infill gaps

✔ More loyal clients

✔ Less stress

✔ Better reviews

If you’re struggling with retention, start with changing your adhesive routine, it changes everything.
